Business Support Connections

You know you need another person. Now you need to find the right one.

Not the person with the longest list of services.

Not whoever replied first to a Facebook post.

The person whose skills, experience, working style and capacity make sense for your business – and whose expectations fit yours too.

Support Connection helps you define the role, avoid the recruitment rabbit hole and meet carefully considered Australian support professionals who could genuinely fit.

Finding support can become another job you don’t have time to do.

First, you have to work out what to call the role.

Then write the brief, decide what to pay, post in the right places, answer questions, sort through applications/portfolios/briefs, compare people who all sound capable and somehow judge who will still feel like the right choice once the real work begins.

And if you have hired before and it went sideways, the whole process carries extra weight.

Was it the wrong person?

Was the role unclear?

Were the expectations different?

Was the business ready to hand the work over?

Or did everybody begin with good intentions and too many assumptions?

You do not need another pile of applications. You need a clearer role and a smaller number of credible options.

That is what Support Connection provides.

What it is

A thoughtful connection service – not a directory or recruitment agency.

I help you understand the support your business needs, define what a good fit looks like and connect you with suitable people from my Australian professional network.

That person may be a:

  • Executive Assistant
  • administrative support professional

  • customer or member experience specialist

  • community manager

  • bookkeeper

  • project or operations support professional

  • creative assistant

  • specialist provider outside my own field

The job title matters less than the match between the work, the business and the person doing it.

Every recommendation is considered personally. I look beyond a list of tasks and compare experience, working style, communication, values, availability, capacity and the level of ownership the role requires.

You make the final decision. My role is to make that decision clearer, smaller and better informed.

Who This Is For

Support Connection is likely to fit if:

  • you have decided another person is needed but are unsure what to call the role

  • you know the role but do not have the time or energy for a broad search

  • you have hired before and want to make a more informed decision this time

  • you value a small number of thoughtful recommendations over hundreds of applications

  • you want someone who understands both the business owner and support-provider sides of the relationship

  • you are prepared to communicate clearly, share appropriate information and create workable boundaries

  • you have a realistic budget for experienced Australian support

This probably isn’t the right service if:

  • you still do not know whether another person is the right answer – book a Support Strategy Session first

  • you want the cheapest available task support

  • you need a large candidate pool or a formal executive recruitment process

  • you expect another person to work out an undefined role after they arrive

  • you are not ready to release information, responsibility or appropriate decision-making authority

  • you want somebody to manage the new provider indefinitely on your behalf

  • you need an employee and expect full HR, award interpretation or employment-law support as part of the package

Finding a capable person is only part of the work. The business also needs to be ready to support the relationship.

We were looking to expand our team but knew that a VA or OBM would be the right place to start – someone who could come in to our business, see what needed support and help us run with it.

Amber said that she could assist finding us the perfect person.  We outlined some basic criteria on what we needed, and then met with Katrina.  She gelled with us straight away, and we were left feeling like it was a perfect match.  Onboarding was easy, and Katrina fit into the team quite nicely.

I felt that Amber knew our business enough to recommend the right person at the right time, and I thank her for that amazing collaboration.

How Support Connection works

1. Understand the business

We begin with a 90 minute Support Strategy Session. We look at the work, your capacity, the pressure points and what another person would genuinely need to own or support.

If you have completed a recent Support Strategy Session and the recommended role is still current, we will not unnecessarily repeat the work.

2. Define the role

We clarify:

  • the purpose of the role

  • responsibilities and priorities

  • skills and experience required

  • expected hours or availability

  • working and communication preferences

  • budget and engagement type

  • boundaries, decision-making authority and measures of success

3. Search and assess

I review suitable people within my professional network and, where appropriate, trusted referrals beyond it.

This is not a mass search designed to produce the longest possible list. The goal is to identify a small number of credible matches.

4. Make the connection

Depending on the package, you will receive either one carefully selected introduction or a shortlist of two or three suitable people, with context about why each person may fit.

5. Begin well

I provide practical guidance for conversations, expectations and onboarding so the relationship has stronger foundations from the start.

Even an excellent person can struggle inside a poorly defined role.

Support relationships often get labelled a “bad fit” when the problem began before the person arrived.

The business may not have known:

  • which responsibilities were actually being handed over

  • what decisions the person could make without approval

  • how and when communication should happen

  • what success would look like

  • how much time the work realistically required

  • what budget was available

  • whether the role needed a task-doer, specialist, coordinator or strategic operator

That is why Support Connection does not begin by scrolling through names.

It begins by understanding the business and defining the role properly.

This is the work I care about deeply.

I’m Amber Field, a Business Support Strategist with more than twenty years of experience across executive support, operations, recruitment, administration, customer and member experience, retail leadership and community building.

I have been the support professional walking into a business that was not ready for the role it created. I have also been the business owner trying to turn a complicated mix of needs into a clear brief.

I know that good intentions are not enough.

The person needs the right skills and working style. The business needs clear expectations, realistic responsibilities and the capacity to build a working relationship. Both sides deserve enough information to decide whether the opportunity is right.

When the connection works, one business owner gets room to breathe and one support professional gains a client who respects what they bring.

That is the outcome I am looking for.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why does the service begin with a Strategy Session?

Because the quality of the connection depends on understanding the business and defining the role. If you have completed a recent Support Strategy Session and the role remains current, you will not pay for that component again.

Are the people you recommend employees or contractors?

Many people in my network are independent Australian service providers, but the appropriate engagement model depends on the role and working arrangement. I do not provide legal or employment-classification advice. Where needed, you should confirm the arrangement with a qualified HR or legal professional.

Do you guarantee the person will be the right fit?

No ethical matching service can guarantee the future of a working relationship. I reduce the guesswork by clarifying the role and making considered recommendations, but you remain responsible for interviews, due diligence and the final decision.

What happens if the person is unavailable?

Availability is confirmed as part of the connection process. If circumstances change before an introduction progresses, I will discuss the available alternatives within the scope of your package.

Will you write the job ad or manage applications?

The standard service is based on role clarity and considered connections through my professional network. A broader public search, job advertisement, application management or full recruitment workflow would need to be scoped separately.

Can you help us onboard the person?

Practical onboarding guidance is included. Hands-on onboarding, documentation or ongoing management is not included unless separately agreed.

Stop searching for “someone who can help with everything”.

Let’s define what the business actually needs and find someone who can do that work well.

You will have a clearer role, a smaller number of credible options and a better foundation for the relationship that follows.
