Real stories from real business owners doing the work behind the scenes.
This series shines a light on the people holding it all together – the creatives, strategists, service providers, and operators who are building businesses with heart, boundaries, and a whole lot of figuring-it-out-as-they-go.
You’ll find honest reflections, delegation lessons, capacity wins (and misses), and a look at what it really takes to keep a small business running sustainably – without the gloss.

I’ve had the absolute pleasure of this Good Human in my space for the last couple of years. I’ve worked alongside her, and I’ve had her friendship hold me firm on more than one occasion. She’s the ultimate wingwoman, in my opinion.
Come and meet my friend from across the dirt playground – Fleur Gowland.
Share a snapshot of your business with us – who you support, and what you do?
I support small business owners in any industry. I understand Tradie Admin and NDIS (codes and all). I can do anything from check an email, invoice or run your business.
What do people think your work looks like – and what does it actually involve most days?
NO idea what people think.. Most days it is jumping in and out of clients – which takes some brain power to flick.
What does “being supported” look like in your business right now?
From their perspective or mine? From their perspective, it looks like I am always on and available and happy to answer questions (which I am). They can see emails being actioned and their bookings going in.
What’s something you’ve delegated (or are considering delegating) – and what made you decide it was time?
I have delegated all TAX. All things that need to be fixed I have delegated to retired husband.
How do you manage your capacity – or at least try to keep things workable during busy seasons?
Firstly I tell people that I am busy and what and when I will take action (includes home and friends life). I will work out what needs to be done now. Usually jumping into emails and taking action for my clients. Make a list (paper and pen) and then start. with breaks and yummy foods. I do work weekends if it suits. Sometimes it helps to keep on track so there is less stress during the week.
Are there any boundaries or non-negotiables in your business that have made a real difference?
I have a dickhead clause. If I notice my client is being a fool, then I will drop them. I have no time for arrogance or messing around. I understand that some business can be sporadic and there are delays. However if you’re just messing with me then you can find someone else. Fortunately, I have worked with some brilliant people who are happy to give their work over to an expert. Finding the right client is also about communication. If we can’t communicate and work it out then we need to find someone else There is always a work around to your needs and mine. Lets find it!!!
What would you tell another small business owner who’s struggling to hand something over or make space for support?
I tell Small Business owners to do one little thing. It is also about trust. they need to build trust and have faith that you will do what you say. Many small business owners have had failures with VA and admin staff.
What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself through running your business?

This is what I am meant to do.
This is my purpose in life.
